As May is now coming to an end, I finally got to finish all my books on my "reading list" for this month. I am so glad I left this book to close the month for I can now name it my BOOK OF THE MONTH. ROMANOV by Nadine Brandes deserves all the praises it has received and more, seriously this book was amazing beyond words!
REVIEW: ★★★★★
As a lover of Russian history and being fascinated with the story of the Romanov family ever since the ANASTASIA film came out, I seriously cannot tell you how excited I was when I found out about this book. I have studied a lot of Russian history as well as the fall of the Tsar and his family, so I was very eager to see how the author was going to tell this new version of such a classic and fascinating story that has captivated the minds and hearts of many through so many years.
This new classic twist does not disappoint in the least! I love the way the author presents the way this people where living and how they were treated and how on point it is with how things really happened. I enjoyed seeing how the depiction of the characters personalities reflected the ones of their real life versions. How Nastya was mischievous, her nickname and the relationship she had with her family perfectly in tune with historical facts. Speaking of this, the way Brandes added little details of things that actually happened, like the cake for Maria's birthday, the swing on the tree and many more just added to my love for this story for this little things reflected the tiny bits of happiness these people got while they were held captive.
I am a lover of fantasy, so the magic touch added to the story made it thrilling and helped make the story even more enticing. This book kept me up at two thirty in the morning for I simply could not put it down and was enjoying it so much I barely even noticed the time flying. The way it is written just grabs a hold of you from the very first page to the very last. The story ends in a sort off cliffhanger, not a full one for we get an ending, but I liked how there is potential for maybe another book or it is left to the imagination of the reader. Either way, this book is one of the best books I've read so far into the year, I am now eager to read more from this amazing author and encourage you to do so too!
You can get this book at any book store or online stores like KOBO, KINDLE and IBOOKS.
Happy Reading!
