The Mister by E.L James - Book Review

Writer: Ella RoseElla Rose

This is the new book by international best-selling author of the Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy, E.L James. This is the first book out of the FSOG series that she has written, and fans of this author where eager to get their hands on this new story. As a reader of FSOG, I was intrigued by this new story and how it would differ or be similar to this author's previous works.

The thing with E.L James is that either you love her style of writing or you don't. Even before I read the book, there where many negative reviews regarding it and it was starting to make me doubt if this book was even going to be as good as I thought it would be.

I first knew about this books back in February when it was placed in iBooks store for pre-sale. The synopsis of the book caught my attention and decided to buy it. When the release date came along, I was currently reading another series and decided to put this one on hold specially after the negative reviews I was reading about it. I finally got to reading this book yesterday and this is what I think of it.

I read this book in one day! Yes, I sat through this entire new story and was hooked on it. At start, I really disliked the main male character Maxim. But as the story goes along, I loved the way he ended up developing. A vast difference from the character of Christian Grey which I never really liked. The main female character Alessia is, in my opinion, represented perfectly specially for someone who had just gone through a terrible ordeal like the one she did and I personally enjoyed the way these two interacted and how their relationship blossomed. I must add that this is a F I C T I O N novel. Why do I say this? Many might think many situations would never happen in real life or the chances of happening might be slim too none, however, this is a fictional story that has been written on the sole purpose of helping us scape reality for a couple of hours.

RATING - ★★★.5

So why the 3.5 rating?

This book wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I actually enjoyed the plot and the main characters. The only reason why I don't give it a better rating was the ending. I think it was rushed and it would have closed better with an epilogue. And another reason was the writting. So anyone who has read E.L James knows her style of writting is somewhat repetitive, and this book is not an exception. There are even certain character and scene similarities with the ones in Fifty Shades. But overall, it was a nice read which was perfect to pass the time. For any of you asking if this is a stand alone novel, as far as I know and from what I've read, yes it is. However, we never know with James. I would have liked a better closing but overall it's an enjoyable book which I would read again.

You can get this book at any book store or online stores like KOBO, KINDLE and IBOOKS.

Happy Reading!
